Guide for DEF and why it matters.

Let's talk about defense now. Currently the calculation is in the aruna wikipedia. https://arunafeltz.net/wiki/index.php/Defense_MagicDefense

• Basically, it means that the damage calculation for defense is that the higher your HARD def the more damage resistance percentage for physical you will get.
• It gives you the benefit of getting low damages if the opposing player does not have Thanatos Card
• It resists critical now since critical no longer pierces defense.

Let us talk about thanatos card.  Yes, it is strong right now however, there are dozens of ways to get away with it.

• Firstly, let us talk about full damage player vs semi-damage players. Full damage players are those who does full damage but takes a lot of damage in return. Due to status these players are forced to get at least 100+ total vitality and not wear the most important armor against thanatos card. In doing so, you will be bound to get at least 200+ total defense which will make thanatos relevant. Semi-damage players are those who uses resist items with damage items. By doing these they are not that vulnerable to thanatos and will get the benefit of reducing their damage taken due to having a minimal defense.
• So why is thanatos card strong right now? As of now excluding those ignore defense skills. Thanatos is the only card that negates the defense calculation entirely and makes another calculation for its damage. Do not be blinded by the fact that if you have lower than 200 defense you will be safe. Because that just means you negated it. only by getting less than 50 Defense will your damage be lower against people with thanatos. Even though less than 100 defense gives you 75% damage only, remember the incoming damage reduction of defense is negated due to thanatos so basically the real threshold will be the less than 50 defense one. 
• So how do you really counter this? Simple. Stop going full damage unless you have good healers and lots of paladin. do not be blinded by the 5% extra damage of dragon set. Geffen Magic Robe is a good choice to use although it does kill your mdef. Normalize using orc hero to minimize vit. Orc Hero is a nice card it also gives you more status points that you can invest in luk. 
• How will full damage build cope with this. Luckily, `the strongest thana users are long range. So defender will lessen the damage by a lot. Just get lots of healer and avoid getting at least 900k damage or more. Please check your damage taken in your battlelogs and adjust if necessary. Full damage is good and all but remember you can play as a team and pick them off one by one using tarot and dispel. 
• Read this changelogs https://butetedev.notion.site/Butete-Update-November-29-2024-14cbd2381857807d9bf6eda7c8137503 and check the defense increase. Avoid using them unless it is necessary for your build
• I am a certified Dragon Shield and Aegir Shield hater right now so this is a bit biased but use other shields. Using dragon shield and aegir shield is not worth it because it gives 40 def and 43 def respectively.
